Web Modernization Project

Overview

APHIS contracted with CMRignite to support several functional areas to fully comply with USDA’s Digital Strategy Playbook and the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act (IDEA). Although APHIS’ public website met some of the requirements outlined in USDA’s Digital Strategy Playbook, APHIS needed a contractor to help redevelop its site to measurably improve user experience and achieve full compliance. CMRignite was responsible for redeveloping APHIS’s approximately 6,500 web pages for this project.

Our Solution

This project was implemented using an eight-phase (8) agile method project plan. Following extensive user research including audience interviews, surveys, and questionnaire sessions with internal stakeholders, we did a full site audit that highlighted the areas that were creating barriers for users. By using tools like user personas and journey maps, we were able to take the APHIS website to the next level. The data we gathered from these steps informed the creative development of the new website, focusing on creating a positive and easy user experience for all types of audiences. Tree testing allowed our team to see how members of the target audience navigated through sections of the new website in real time, which ensures that the product we created was simple, intuitive, easy to navigate, and provided the information users are looking for on the website.
